KISTLER, Von Eugene

Von was born in Kansas City, Missouri on August 17, 1936. He was the only child to Fredric and Leta Kistler. He grew up with (3) close cousins, all of which were only children.

He graduated from Southeast High School in Kansas City, Missouri in 1954, and received his Bachelor of Science in Physics from Purdue University, where he was a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity. Von continued his education and went on to receive a Master of Science in Physics from the University of Wisconsin in 1960 and a Master of Art in Astronomy from the University of California at Los Angeles .

Von began his career at Atomics International as a nuclear physicist and then astro physicist from 1958-1965. He then followed a long career with Pacific Bell/AT&T which initially took him and his family from coast to coast. The family moved to San Diego in 1974 and remained in El Cajon for 36 years. Von was with Pacific Bell from 1965-1994 when he retired as the Regional Manager of Network Engineering.

Von met Marilyn Grider back in 1959 while she was on vacation in California. Marilyn graduated from Central High School also in 1954. They married in 1960 going to California to begin their life together. They were married 49 1/2 years. Von and Marilyn had a son, Kyle, and daughter, Kirsten, after 10 years of marriage. Kirsten married her husband Scott and together they and gave Von (2) granddaughters, Chloe and Madeleine. Von was preceded in death by his son, Kyle. Von was active in tennis, golf, choir, concerts and a close friend to many people.

Von and his wife Marilyn were active volunteers for the GCCA for many years and I know everyone will miss him.
