2007/2008 Concert Season
- Edgar Cruz, guitarist - Tuesday, September 11th, 2007 (7:30pm)
Acoustic guitar luminary, Edgar Cruz, has the rare, show-stopping ability to sound like an entire orchestra on only one instrument. He effortlessly plays everything from the passionate intricacies of Malaguena to the full-bodied, driving voicings of Bohemian Rhapsody, building each concert’s unique offerings from a vast repertoire of more than 400 songs. With numerous industry awards, television and cable appearances, thirteen celebrated CDs, a PBS special, called Gallery, about his life and career, and more than 200 live performances each year, neither Edgar Cruz nor his “speed of light” finger-picking shows any sign of slowing down!
- Franc D'Ambrosio, vocalist (known for Phantom of the Opera) - Monday, October 1, 2007 (7:30pm)
Franc D’Ambrosio is one of the most accomplished theatrical singers of the modern era. His 2,600 performances as Phantom in Broadway’s legendary Phantom of the Opera is only the tip of the “big time” iceberg… this skilled and passionate vocalist was also Anthony Corleone in The Godfather III, the title role in Sweeney Todd on Broadway, and hand-picked by Barry Manilow for Valentino in Copacabana. This year, D’Ambrosio offers two shows -- the beloved Broadway show that continues to touch audiences nationwide, and a brand new show celebrating the timeless songs of Hollywood. With this master vocalist’s artistry at the helm, both shows are sure to enthrall!
- 4Score, talented singing quartet backed by a trio of musicians - Sunday, November 18, 2007 (7:30pm)
Matt Davenport Productions proudly presents a new, dynamic vocal show called 4Score. Showcasing four incredibly versatile singers, backed by an exceptional three-man rhythm section, 4Score takes the audience on a thrilling musical journey through the very best of the “American songbook.” From Gershwin to Garfunkel… Hollywood to Harlem… “Radio Days” to the “Great White Way”… and all the way to a grand Patriotic Finale, tight harmonies and rich -- sometimes “unexpected”-- musical arrangements anchor the sparkling costumes and chic, colorful backdrop, resulting in an absolute feast for the senses. 4Score is an evening not to be missed… 4Sure!
- Harry James Orchestra, Big Band era performances - Monday, January 14th, 2008 (7:30pm)
The Harry James Orchestra continues the tradition of mellow arrangements and fine rhythmic playing that first made it famous. Currently under the direction of James’ lead trumpet virtuoso, Fred Radke, the orchestra continues to play worldwide in both major venues and special “invitation only” performances. Fred Radke’s style of playing is so similar to James’ that listeners often cannot discern the difference. With countless credits including The Glenn Miller Orchestra, The Lennon Sisters, Connie Stevens, The Pied Pipers (and the list goes on and on), Radke is one of the few remaining original luminaries keeping the panache of that brilliant era alive.
- Trio Excelsior, Chamber Orchestra Trio, Tuesday, March 4, 2008 (7:30pm)
Mutual admiration of each other’s artistry brought three internationally acclaimed musicians together in 2003 to form Trio Excelsior! Featuring a pianist, cellist and violinist from Finland, Germany and the U.S. respectively, this dexterous and soulful group utilizes the piano trio repertoire to explore not only their relationship to each other, but how the great composers expressed the essence of human existence through music. With professional credits and directorships all along the U.S. east coast and abroad, and playing what has been described as “incredibly moving” and “brilliantly executed,” Trio Excelsior exemplifies the mastery of keeping profound musicianship at the root of passionate intensity and grand style.
- The Celtic Tenors, vocalist trio, Saturday, April 5, 2008 (7:30pm)
The Celtic Tenors have the rare ability to appeal to virtually every sector of music lover. In an unprecedented event, they were signed on the spot to an international record deal, and quickly became the talk of the music industry. Their debut album went immediately to No. 2 in the UK, to No. 1 in Ireland and Germany, and won The German Grammy-equivalent for Best Classical Crossover Album… and that was just the beginning. The Celtic Tenors have since done much international television, many international compilation recordings, and have become a “hot ticket” among international heads of state. They are rapidly -- and consummately -- re-inventing the entire Tenor idiom.
